Lunatic is a festival that takes place every June on the campus of Leuphana University Lüneburg. The festival is organized by around 25 students who combine music, art and culture. The Lunatic offers a diverse program ranging from local and international musicians, art installations, workshops and talks to sustainability and diversity initiatives. The Lunatic is also a place of cultural and political exchange that promotes peace, science and society. Lunatic is one of the youngest festival teams in Germany that remains flexible and creative despite the corona pandemic. Lunatic is a festival that is always different and shows authentic Lüneburg.

Lüneburg is a large city in Lower Saxony on the Ilmenau with over 78,000 inhabitants. Founded in the 19th century, it was for a long time an important Hanseatic city that gained wealth and reputation through the salt trade. The traces of the salty past can still be seen today in the old town, which is one of the most beautiful in Germany with its brick buildings, churches and gabled houses.

Lüneburg is also a city with a lively and diverse culture, which is reflected in numerous museums, theaters, galleries and festivals. The best-known museums include the German Salt Museum, which tells the story of white gold, the East Prussian State Museum, which shows the culture and history of East Prussia, and the Lüneburg Museum, which presents the region's nature and culture. Lüneburg is home to the Lüneburg Theater with a wide repertoire of drama, musical theater, ballet and concerts, as well as the Gut Wienebüttel Cultural Forum, a place for literature, art and music. The city is also home to numerous festivals, including Lunatic, the student festival for music, art and culture, the Lüneburg City Festival, the largest folk festival in the region, and the Lüneburg Bach Festival, dedicated to the music of the famous composer.
