Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and one of the most popular cities in Europe. Located on the Mediterranean, the city offers a unique blend of history, architecture, gastronomy and nightlife. Whether you are interested in Gaudí's masterpieces, Picasso's paintings, the Gothic cathedral or modern museums, Barcelona has something for everyone.

The city was founded in the 13th century and experienced its heyday as a trading and maritime power in the 15th and 16th centuries. The city was also a centre of Catalan nationalism and resistance against the Spanish central government. In the 20th century, Barcelona was characterised by two world wars, the Franco dictatorship, the 1992 Olympic Games and the global financial crisis. Today, Barcelona is a modern and cosmopolitan metropolis that is committed to social and cultural diversity12.

The city is best known for the works of the famous architect Antoni Gaudí, who characterised the Catalan Modernisme style. His most famous buildings are the Sagrada Família, an unfinished basilica that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Casa Batlló, a colourful residential building with dragon motifs, the Casa Milà, an organic building with a spectacular roof terrace, and Park Güell, a fairytale garden with mosaics and sculptures3 .

Barcelona is also a city of art that has produced or attracted many famous artists such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Salvador Dalí and Antoni Tàpies. There are numerous museums in the city that exhibit their works, including the Picasso Museum, the Miró Museum, the Dalí Museum and the Tàpies Museum. The city is also home to the MACBA, the Museum of Contemporary Art, which has one of the most important collections in Europe.

This city of culture also offers a rich and varied scene, ranging from music, theatre, literature, film and dance to festivals, markets, gastronomy and nightlife. The city is home to the famous Liceu Opera House, the magnificent Palau de la Música Catalana concert hall and the renowned Gran Teatre del Liceu theatre. The city is also known for its festivals such as Primavera Sound, Sónar, Grec and Mercè, which offer music, art, theatre and fireworks. The city is also a paradise for foodies, who can savour Catalan cuisine, tapas, paella and cava. Finally, Barcelona is also a city of nightlife with a wide selection of bars, clubs, discos and live music.

Barcelona is a city that should not be missed. A city full of art, culture and joie de vivre that enchants every visitor.
