Cancún, Mexico
Cancún is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the world, known for its beautiful beaches on the Caribbean Sea, lively hotel zones and vibrant nightlife. The city offers first-class resorts, shopping centres and restaurants that attract tourists from all over the world. At the same time, Cancún is a perfect starting point for excursions to nearby Mayan ruins such as Chichén Itzá or Tulum. Water sports, snorkelling and diving at the famous Mesoamerican Reef are also popular activities.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Playa del Carmen is a lively seaside resort on the Riviera Maya, known for its relaxed atmosphere, palm-fringed beaches and the popular shopping street ‘Quinta Avenida’. The town attracts both international tourists and expats. Playa is an ideal place for beach holidays, but also offers access to cenotes (underwater caves) and ancient Mayan sites. The island of Cozumel, a paradise for divers, is just a short boat trip away.

El Mirador, Mexico
El Mirador is a little-explored archaeological site and one of the most important places of the Mayan civilisation. It lies deep in the jungle and is known for its massive, partially overgrown pyramids, including the famous ‘La Danta’, one of the largest pyramids in the world. Due to its remote location, El Mirador is difficult to access and requires several days of hiking or helicopter flights.

Tulum, Mexico
Tulum is famous for its spectacular location directly on the Caribbean Sea, where Mayan ruins rise picturesquely above the cliffs. The archaeological site attracts thousands of visitors every year. Tulum itself is also known for its ecologically sustainable hotels and yoga retreats, making it a popular destination for wellness tourism. The beaches are paradisiacal and the area is rich in cenotes.

Mahahual, Mexico
Mahahual is a small coastal town on the southern part of the Riviera Maya. It is known for its relaxed, less touristy charm and its proximity to Banco Chinchorro, an atoll that is one of the best diving and snorkelling areas in Mexico. The calm turquoise waters and palm-fringed beaches make it an ideal place for relaxation and water sports.

Chetumal, Mexico
Chetumal is the capital of the state of Quintana Roo and is located on the border with Belize. It is an important port and trading centre, but also offers cultural highlights such as the Museum of Mayan Culture. The city has a relaxed atmosphere and is the starting point for visits to Bacalar and the surrounding area.

Bacalar, Mexico

Dzibanché is an important archaeological site of the Mayan culture and is located in the dense jungle of Quintana Roo. The city was once a powerful centre that competed with other Mayan cities such as Calakmul. Its imposing temples and pyramids provide an insight into the high culture of the Maya and make Dzibanché a fascinating excursion destination.
